X-Country ski race Sat. Jan. 3

BREIA will be hosting a high school x-country ski race at the Egypt Rd. Gorge trails on Saturday, January 3. The schools racing will be Camden, Holland Patent, Old Forge, and Whitesboro. So as not to interfere with the racers, we'll close access to the Gorge trails, including the upper parking lot, from 9:00 AM-Noon. The trails will reopen to the general public after noon. Access to the Great Trail will not be effected.

ski rentals

Dan,

Thanks for your comments. To answer your question, yes, the Boonville Search & Rescue rents skis on weekends throughout the winter. Schuss Ski & Snowboard on Commercial Dr. in New Hartford also rents x-country skis.

Question about Jackson Hill

Hi Folks,

I’m just writing to find out what the scoop is on Jackson Hill. I went up the other day, and the parking lot was closed (not plowed) and the lodge was not open. Will it be open this year? I did get to ski at Egypt Road and that was great.

I love the trails and thanks for what you do!!

For the blog:

12/22/2008

It was mighty cold, it was very windy, the canal trail was freshly groomed, and it was FABULOUS skiing today. We skied from Boonville to Pixley Falls plus partway to the trail head and enjoyed every minute of it. And it looked like we were to only folks out there (at least in the afternoon).

Thank you, BREIA!!!

Ski tour on 11/29

After learning from BREIA's web site that the trails had received another foot of new snow on Thanksgiving and that most of the Egypt Road trails had been groomed on Friday, I decided to drive to Alder Creek on 11/29 to give them a try.

WOW! Conditions were nearly perfect and the snow-covered landscape is beautiful. It was a mostly sunny day with temps in low 30s during my visit.

I skied four different trail segments (16.4 miles in all).and was rewarded with this view of the Adirondacks.

I saw/heard ravens, bluejays, black-capped chickadees, hairy woodpeckers and a white-breasted nuthatch plus many deer tracks, turkey tracks, red squirrel tracks and mouse tracks.

Looking forward to my next visit...
